If you think someone you know may be experiencing so-called honour-based abuse, there are lots of ways in which you can support them.
So-called honour-based abuse can place individuals at significant risk of harm. It is important to take concerns seriously and avoid making assumptions about a person's circumstances.
•Are they in immediate danger? If they are in immediate danger or seriously injured, call 999 (or 112 from a mobile phone).Find a safe space. If an incident has just happened, try and find somewhere they feel safe.
•Take concerns seriously. People experiencing so-called honour-based abuse may fear repercussions from family members or their wider community if they seek help.
Report
• Report and Support. Students and staff can report an incident using the University's Report and Support system.
What can you do?
If someone you know has been affected, you can encourage them to seek support. Alternatively, you can make an anonymous disclosure which will allow us to identify concerns and investigate where there may be multiple reports relating to the same issue or area.
Do not attempt to mediate with family members or others involved, as this may place the person at greater risk.
